- Vice Admiral Tarun Sobti has been appointed as the Navy’s new deputy chief, where he will oversee the force’s activities in the face of China’s rising footprint in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) and its maritime collusion with Pakistan.
- Vice Admiral Sobti, who joined the Navy in July 1988, is a “navigation and direction specialist” who has commanded frontline vessels such as the missile corvette INS Kora, guided-missile destroyer INS Kolkata, and the Eastern Fleet.
- He was the director-general of Project Seabird, which deals with the expansion of the Karwar naval base, before assuming charge as the new deputy chief.
