Overview

What is the HP Allied Services exam?

The HP Subordinate Allied Services Examination (popularly called the HP Allied exam) is a combined competitive exam conducted by the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC) to recruit candidates for Class-III (Group-C) posts across state government departments — Election Kanungo, Extension Officer (Industries), Inspector (Cooperation), Inspector (Audit), Panchayat Inspector, Tehsil Welfare Officer and similar posts as notified in each cycle.

The exam has just two stages — an objective Prelims (screening test) and a descriptive Mains. There is no interview: Prelims marks are not counted, and your final merit comes entirely from the three Mains papers, with posts allotted by merit and the preference list you fill in the application. That structure rewards exactly two things — accurate GK (with a heavy Himachal Pradesh component) and disciplined descriptive writing in English, Hindi and GK — and both are the core of our Allied coaching.

HP Allied Exam Pattern — Prelims & Mains

Two stages, two different skills. Prelims is a pure-GK screening filter; Mains is a descriptive exam that alone decides your rank and your post.

Stage 1 — Prelims / Screening Test (objective)

Negative marking: 0.25 mark deducted per wrong answer. Prelims is screening only — its marks are not counted in the final merit. Roughly 20× the number of advertised posts qualify for Mains.

Stage 2 — Mains (descriptive) · decides the final merit

To qualify, candidates generally need minimum marks in each paper plus an aggregate threshold (recent cycles: 35% per paper and 40% aggregate). There is no interview — final selection is by Mains merit and the post-preference order you submit. Always verify exact conditions in the latest HPPSC notification; we update this page after every official change.

Why Raman Academy

Why Raman Academy is the best HP Allied coaching institute in Shimla

Most institutes teach Allied as a side-batch of HPAS. We prepare you for the exam Allied actually is — a GK-heavy Prelims followed by a Mains where descriptive writing alone decides your post.

Himachal-first content

HP history, geography, socio-economic development and current affairs taught with the depth Section A of Prelims and the GK Mains paper demand — by people who live where the exam is set.

Mains-first strategy

With no interview, your rank is decided purely by English, Hindi and GK descriptive papers. Essay, précis and structured GK answers are drilled weekly from the very start — not after Prelims.

PYQ-based teaching

Every topic is taught with previous-year-question context, so your preparation stays anchored to what HPPSC actually asks — with a free solved PYQ library on our site.

Daily current affairs — free

Daily curated current affairs plus monthly Himachal-specific compilations, published free on our site — covering Prelims Section B and the current-affairs part of GK Mains.

Hindi + English writing practice

Most aspirants never practise structured Hindi writing before the exam and lose easy marks in a 100-mark paper. We make both language papers a weekly habit with checked answers.

Experienced faculty, reachable

Faculty with years of HPPSC teaching experience — present in the classroom, on Zoom and on WhatsApp when you're stuck.

FAQ

HP Allied coaching — frequently asked questions

Which is the best HP Allied Services coaching in Shimla?

Raman Academy in Sanjauli, Shimla is rated 4.9★ on Google and runs a dedicated HP Allied batch — not a side-class of HPAS. Being Shimla-based, our teaching treats the Himachal-specific portion of Prelims and the descriptive Mains papers (English, Hindi, GK) as the core of the course. You can judge for yourself with a free demo class before paying anything.

What is the fee for HP Allied coaching at Raman Academy?

Our HP Allied coaching fees are published openly: ₹25,000 for the Recorded Course, ₹35,000 for the Live Online (Zoom) Course, and ₹45,000 for the Offline Classroom Course in Shimla. All modes include books, test series and answer-writing practice, with one-time and EMI payment options. Discounts are often available — ask our counsellor on WhatsApp.

Is there an interview in the HP Allied Services exam?

No. The HP Allied exam has only two stages — an objective Prelims (screening) and a descriptive Mains. Prelims marks are not counted, and the final merit is prepared entirely from the three Mains papers (English 100, Hindi 100, General Knowledge 200), with posts allotted by merit and your preference order. That is why our coaching is Mains-writing-first from day one.

What is the exam pattern of HP Allied Services?

Prelims: one objective General Knowledge paper — 200 questions, 200 marks, 3 hours, with 0.25 negative marking per wrong answer; around 20 times the number of posts qualify for Mains. Mains: three descriptive papers of 3 hours each — English (100), Hindi (100) and General Knowledge (200) — totalling 400 marks, which alone decide the final merit. Always verify details in the latest HPPSC notification.

What is the eligibility and age limit for HP Allied Services?

A Bachelor's degree in any stream from a recognised university, and age between 18 and 45 years on the cut-off date, with category-based relaxations. As these are Class-III posts of the HP Government, recent notifications carry conditions favouring candidates who did their Matric and 10+2 from institutions in Himachal Pradesh — check the exact clause in the current notification. There is no limit on attempts.

Which posts are filled through the HP Allied Services exam?

Posts vary by cycle. Recent notifications have included Election Kanungo, Inspector (Cooperation), Extension Officer (Industries), Inspector (Audit), Panchayat Inspector and Tehsil Welfare Officer — Class-III posts across the Elections, Cooperation, Industries, Panchayati Raj and Welfare departments of the HP Government.

What is the salary in HP Allied Services posts?

Allied posts are Class-III (Group-C) positions. In recent cycles, appointment is initially on contract with fixed monthly emoluments as per the pay level notified for each post, followed by regularisation under HP Government policy — after which pay follows the state pay matrix with DA and allowances, plus departmental promotion channels. Exact pay differs post to post; check the pay column of the current HPPSC notification.

What is the difference between HPAS and HP Allied Services?

HPAS is the state's Class-I/II combined exam (SDM, DSP, Tehsildar etc.) with three stages including an interview, an optional subject and a 1050-mark merit. HP Allied fills Class-III posts through just two stages — Prelims and Mains — with no optional and no interview. The syllabus overlaps heavily (especially HP GK and current affairs), which is why many aspirants prepare for both together with us.

Where can I get HP Allied previous year question papers?

Our free previous-year-papers library at ramanacademy.in has solved papers of HP competitive exams, and our store offers printed solved PYQ compilations with trend analysis for serious aspirants.

Can students from Mandi, Kangra or other districts join without coming to Shimla?

Yes. The Live Online and Recorded courses are built exactly for this — students from Mandi, Kangra, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Solan, Una, Kullu, Chamba, Sirmaur, Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti attend the same classes as Shimla students, with books and printed tests couriered home and doubt support on Zoom and WhatsApp.

Two stages. No interview. One structured preparation.

Raman Academy, Sanjauli (Shimla) brings everything an HP Allied aspirant needs — GK-heavy Prelims prep, weekly English, Hindi and GK answer writing, tests and honest guidance — into one system. Talk to our counsellor and find the right starting point.
