- Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya launched the world’s first anti-covid nasal vaccine ‘iNCOVACC’ on 26 January 2023 in New Delhi.
- Speaking on the occasion, Union Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh said that our next step would be to develop vaccines for non-communicable diseases.
- The company, in December 2022, got the approval for the primary 2-dose schedule, and as a heterologous booster dose.
- Before that, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) had approved the restricted use of the intranasal vaccine in emergency situations in the age group of 18 and above. Two doses of the vaccine are to be given 28 days apart.
- Bharat Biotech will sell the intranasal vaccine at ₹325 per shot for government procurement and ₹800 per shot for private vaccination centers.
- Bharat Biotech International Limited has developed this vaccine in collaboration with Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance.
- The use of this vaccine is expected to start in those private hospitals which have placed advance orders for it.
