‘World’s dirtiest man’ dies in Iran at 94

  • An Iranian hermit nicknamed the “world’s dirtiest man” for not taking a shower for more than half a century has died at the healthy old age of 94, state media has reported.
  • The man named Amou Haji was afraid of water and had not bathed for over 60 years. He breathed his last on 23 October 2022, in the village of Dejgah in Iran’s southern province of Fars.
  • Haji was single and avoided taking a shower in the fear of “getting sick”, IRNA News.
  • However, a few months ago, he was forced by the villagers to wash for the first time. Several pictures of Haji are being shared on social media with netizens wondering if his “non-bathing” record was for real.
  • In a 2014 interview given to the Tehran Times, he shared mainly ate dead animals and particularly liked porcupine meat.
  • He drank 1.5 gallons of water a day, cut his hair by burning it over a fire, and smoked countless cigarettes gifted to him by villagers – as well as a pipe filled with dried animal feces as tobacco.
