- UK’s University of Oxford (1st) retains the top spot for the seventh consecutive year.
- A record number of 1,799 universities from 104 countries and regions are ranked, 137 more than last year.
- Asia is the most represented continent with 669 universities participating, jointly with Europe (639, up 50 from 589 last year). The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has retained the top position among Indian institutes in the latest round of Times Higher Education (THE) rankings, which has been boycotted by most Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) for the third consecutive year over transparency concerns.
- The US continues to dominate with 177 universities ranked overall, including seven in the world top ten, and 12 in the top 20, but its supremacy is being challenged by Asia as the number of US universities represented in the top 100 continues to fall, from 43 in 2018, to 34 this year. Harvard University retains its position as the US’s top ranked university in 2nd place.
