The third edition of the multilateral exercise La Perouse held in the Indian Ocean Region

  • The 3rd edition of multilateral exercise ‘La Perouse’ has been conducted from 13 to 14 March 2023 in the Indian Ocean region.
  • The first edition of the France-initiated La Pérouse multinational exercise was held in 2019 and saw the participation of the navies of Australia, Japan and the US. In the second edition in 2021, the Indian Navy joined in for the first time.
  • The third edition will witness the participation of personnel, ships and integral helicopters of the five navies.
  • The biennial exercise ‘La Perouse’ is conducted by the French Navy, and aims to enhance maritime domain awareness and optimize maritime coordination among the participating navies in the IndoPacific region.
  • The two-day exercise provides an opportunity to like-minded navies to develop closer ties in planning, coordination and information sharing for seamless maritime operations.
  • The exercise will witness complex and advanced naval operations involving surface warfare, anti-air warfare, air defense exercises, cross deck landings and tactical exercises.
