The birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda is celebrated as National Youth Day on 12th January every year.
About
- Swami Vivekananda was born on 12th January 1863 in Calcutta in Kolkata and was originally named Narendra Nath Das.
- He was the chief disciple of Ramkrishna Paramhansa after whose name he had opened Ramakrishna Mission in 1897.
- Adopted the name Swami Vivekananda in 1863 on the recommendation of Raja Ajit Singh of Kheri.
Contributions
- He has introduced the Indian philosophy of Vedanta to the Western world. He preached Neo Vedanta which main interpretation of Hindu philosophy through a Western lens and he believe in combining spirituality and material gain of the world.
- Advocate education for the upliftment of motherland and believe that the main purpose of education is character building.
- He was well known for the speech delivered by him in the first parliament of religion in Chicago in 1893.
- Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose has addressed him as the maker of modern India
- Swami Vivekananda spelled four ways to attain Moksha in his book which are Rajyog, Karmyog Janyog, and Bhakti Yog.
- He established Belur Math in 1899.
- He died in 1902 in Belur in West Bengal which is the headquarter of Ramakrishna Mission.
