  • A new Battlefield Surveillance System (BSS) under Project Sanjay is in the process of being deployed, after extensive validation carried out in the plains, deserts, and mountains.
  • Under Project Sanjay, a new Battlefield Surveillance System (BSS) will be deployed soon, for which extensive validation was done last year in plains, desert and mountainous terrain.
  • The Indian Army is in the process of signing a contract with BEL Ghaziabad for the delivery of multiple surveillance centers to field formations by December 2025.
  • It will also be integrated with another application, the Artillery Combat Command Control and Communication System (ACCCCS), to complete the grid.
  • ACCCCS is one of the oldest and most successful operational information systems of the Army, which is also being upgraded.
  • Under this, information and data from thousands of secure sensors will be integrated into a comprehensive system that will help army commanders with quick decision-making capabilities.
  • In addition, the Army is setting up captive data centers across the country and these are expected to be fully operational this year.
  • The project is an in-house decision support system called Situational Awareness Module for the Army (SAMA) and will integrate inputs from all operational and managerial information systems.
  • The SAMA will be first commissioned in June 2023 in the Northern Command of the Army.
