- Madhya Pradesh has become the first state in the country to send senior citizens on pilgrimage by air under the Mukhyamantri Teerth Darshan Yojana.
- This first batch of 32 pilgrims took off on 20 May 2023 from Raja Bhoj Airport Bhopal to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh by Indigo’s flight.
- These pilgrims include 24 men and eight women.
- Mukhyamantri Teerth Darshan Yojana is one of the major schemes of the Bharatiya Janata Party government in the state. At present, under the scheme, one member of a family can go on pilgrimage by air.
- From the next visit, arrangements will be made for more than one member of a family to go on pilgrimage, so that elders can accompany their spouses.
- Travel by rail will also continue under this scheme.
