Madhya Pradesh has become the first state in the country to send senior citizens on pilgrimage by air under the Mukhyamantri Teerth Darshan Yojana.
This first batch of 32 pilgrims took off on 20 May 2023 from Raja Bhoj Airport Bhopal to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh by Indigo's flight.
These pilgrims include 24 men and eight women.
Mukhyamantri Teerth Darshan Yojana is one of the major schemes of the Bharatiya Janata Party government in the state. At present, under the scheme, one member of a family can go on pilgrimage by air.
From the next visit, arrangements will be made for more than one member of a family to go on pilgrimage, so that elders can accompany their spouses.
Travel by rail will also continue under this scheme.
