- The Indian Navy unveiled its latest warship, Mahendragiri, in Mumbai on September 1.
- Named after a peak in the Eastern Ghats situated in Odisha, Mahendragiri is the final frigate constructed under Project 17A.
- The ceremony took place at the Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd, where Sudesh Dhankhar, spouse of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, had the honor of launching the ship.
- These Project 17A vessels were conceptualized and designed by the Indian Navy’s own Warship Design Bureau.
- The bureau highlighted that the introduction of Mahendragiri showcases the significant advancements India has made in establishing an indigenous naval capability.
