- After Inaugurating the country’s first ‘Lavender Festival’ here, the Union Minister described Bhaderwah as the birthplace of India’s Purple Revolution.
- Dr. Jitendra Singh said that the country’s first lavender festival in Bhaderwah has been possible today only by the progressive thinking of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who after taking the oath as PM in 2014 stressed that the regions which have been disconnected from the mainstream India must be connected to the mainstream through development.
- The Lavender Festival exhibits the impressive advancements achieved in cultivating lavender and the beneficial influence it has had on the nearby community.
- Lavender cultivation has thrived in Bhaderwah due to its ideal conditions, including favorable land and climate.
- This region has witnessed the birth of India’s purple revolution, where lavender crops have transformed the lives of farmers and opened up new avenues for development.
- The CSIR-IIIM, through its CSIR-aroma Mission, has played a pivotal role in supporting farmers in Bhaderwah’s Doda district.
- The mission aims to increase the income of small and marginal farmers and foster the development of agriculture-based startups.
- As part of this initiative, the CSIR-IIIM has distributed over 30 lakh free lavender plants to farmers in various districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
