- Sharing a video of the completed bridge, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav tweeted, “In 11 months, India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge (Anji Khad) is ready.” The total length of 96 cable strands used in this bridge is 653 km.
- The bridge has been built in the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district under Indian Railways’ most challenging Udampur-Srinagar-Baramulla-Rail Link (USBRL) Project.
- Anji Khad Bridge is the “first cable-stayed bridge” of the country which will connect Katra and Reasi in the state of Jammu and Kashmir through Indian Railways.
- The bridge connects tunnels T2 and T3 on the Katra-Banihal section of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link Project.
- This bridge is situated at a height of 331 meters above the riverbed of Chenab at a cost of Rs 37,000 crore.
- In addition, this bridge connects Tunnel T2 towards Katra and Tunnel T3 towards Reasi. Described as a “genuine engineering marvel”, work on the bridge began in 2017.
- It is the second highest railway bridge after the iconic arch bridge over the Chenab at Kauri, which is the highest railway bridge in the world at 359 meters above the riverbed – 35 meters higher than the iconic Eiffel Tower in Paris.
