Sharing a video of the completed bridge, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav tweeted, "In 11 months, India's first cable-stayed rail bridge (Anji Khad) is ready." The total length of 96 cable strands used in this bridge is 653 km.
The bridge has been built in the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district under Indian Railways' most challenging Udampur-Srinagar-Baramulla-Rail Link (USBRL) Project.
Anji Khad Bridge is the "first cable-stayed bridge" of the country which will connect Katra and Reasi in the state of Jammu and Kashmir through Indian Railways.
The bridge connects tunnels T2 and T3 on the Katra-Banihal section of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link Project.
This bridge is situated at a height of 331 meters above the riverbed of Chenab at a cost of Rs 37,000 crore.
In addition, this bridge connects Tunnel T2 towards Katra and Tunnel T3 towards Reasi. Described as a "genuine engineering marvel", work on the bridge began in 2017.
It is the second highest railway bridge after the iconic arch bridge over the Chenab at Kauri, which is the highest railway bridge in the world at 359 meters above the riverbed – 35 meters higher than the iconic Eiffel Tower in Paris.
