- Geetika Srivastava has been appointed as the first woman charge d’affaires in the Indian High Commission in Islamabad by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
- Women diplomats were previously assigned to Pakistan, but not at the highest level.
- Geetika Srivastava, who is now acting as joint secretary at the MEA headquarters, will take over for Suresh Kumar, who will return to Delhi soon.
- Srivastava, a member of the Indian Foreign Service’s 2005 batch, worked at the Indian embassy in China from 2007 until 2009.
