- Harvard University announced Thursday that Claudine Gay will become its 30th president, making her the first Black person and the second woman to lead the Ivy League school.
- Claudine Gay, who is currently a dean at the university and a democracy scholar, will become president July 1. She replaces Lawrence Bacow, who is stepping down and has said he wanted to spend more time with family.
- In a video posted by the university, Claudine Gay said she was “humbled” to be elected, and thanked Bacow for his guidance.
- “It has been a privilege to work with Larry over the last five years,” Claudine Gay said. “He has shown me that leadership isn’t about one person. It’s about all of us, moving forward together. And that’s a lesson I take with me into this next journey.”
