Central Government is going to set up the first nuclear plant of North India in Fatehabad district of Haryana

North India’s first nuclear plant will come up in Haryana’s Gorakhpur, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said on Saturday (February 18, 2023).
He said that this is keeping in line with the priority to increase India’s nuclear capacity.
Stating that a number of path-breaking decisions were taken in the last eight years, the Minister informed that the Department of Atomic Energy has also been given permission for forming joint ventures with PSUs for resources to open up atomic energy plants, which is an “upcoming and promising” sector and has potential to fulfill India’s all energy needs in times to come.
Atomic Energy and Space Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said that earlier such plants were mostly confined to Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra. Jitendra Singh said that the Union Government has approved the establishment of 10 nuclear plants.
According to a statement issued by the Department of Atomic Energy, the Gorakhpur Haryana Anu Vidyut Project (GHAVP) will have two units of 700 MW each of indigenously designed Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors (PHWR). For this, a budget of Rs 20,594 crore has been released.
Construction of main plant buildings or structures such as Fire Water Pump House (FWPH), SafetyRelated Pump House (SRPH), Fuel Oil Storage Area, Ventilation Stack, Overhead Tank (OHT), Switchyard Control Building, and others in progress.
