BFI chief Ajay Singh elected as Vice President of IBA

  • Boxing Federation of India (BFI) chief Ajay Singh has been elected as the International Boxing Association (IBA) vice-president.
  • Ajay Singh, who is in his second term as BFI chief, has become the third vice-president of the IBA and will continue in the post till 2026, with the other two being Volodymyr Prodyvus of Ukraine and Abdulmutalib Abakarov of Serbia.
  • Ajay Singh’s appointment was confirmed during the IBA Board of Directors meeting held after the conclusion of the Women’s World Championship in New Delhi.
  • India hosted the Women’s World Championship for the third time and topped the medal tally by winning four golds.
  • The BFI has also expressed interest in hosting the Men’s World Championships and is in talks with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to host the Paris Olympic qualifiers.

International Boxing Association:-

  • The first convention of the association was held in December 1977, at which the constitution and by-laws were adopted. The present name was kept in the year 1984. President is Daryl J Peoples and Headquarters – Springfield, USA.
