- Dutch player Anish Giri won the 2023 Tata Steel Chess tournament with his win over Richard Rapport, his first win in the super tournament after finishing the event as the runner-up five times.
- The tournament victory was made possible by Jordan van Forest’s defeat of tournament leader GM Nodirbek Abdussaturov, who at age 18 had led most of the event, and defeated world number one GM Magnus Carlsen.
- Despite losing two games in a row for the first time since 2015 in this tournament, Carlsen beat GM Arjun Erigaisi and tied for second place with Abdussaturov with 8/13 marks.
- GM Wesley SO finished fourth with 7.5 points after playing out a draw with GM Praggnanandha R.
