Geetika Srivastava has been appointed as the first woman charge d'affaires in the Indian High Commission in Islamabad by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
Women diplomats were previously assigned to Pakistan, but not at the highest level.
Geetika Srivastava, who is now acting as joint secretary at the MEA headquarters, will take over for Suresh Kumar, who will return to Delhi soon.
Srivastava, a member of the Indian Foreign Service's 2005 batch, worked at the Indian embassy in China from 2007 until 2009.
