  • Spain edged out Colombia 1-0 in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022 in the final at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday to successfully defend their world champions title in the age-group tournament.
  • Colombia, who had enjoyed a dream run in the mega event; making their way into the final, have had a heartbreaking end to their expedition as an own goal from their defender Ana María Guzmán Zapata in the 82nd minute granted Spain an easy victory.
  • FIFA president Gianni Infantino, alongside top officials from the Asian Football Federation (AFC) and All India Football Federation (AIFF), was in attendance at the venue as Spain eked out a solitary goal win and retained the title they also claimed in 2018.
  • The 7th FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022 was hosted by India for the first time from 11 to 30 October 2022. It was originally scheduled for 2020, but was then postponed due to COVID-19.
  • A total of 16 teams including the Indian team participated in the championship held at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar (Odisha), Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Madgaon (Goa) and DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai (Maharashtra).
