3rd edition of the trilateral naval exercise Singapore-India-Thailand Maritime Exercise (SITMEX) was conducted in the Andaman Sea of the Indian Ocean on 15 – 16th November, 2021.

Representative Ships

  • Indian Naval Ship (INS) Karmuk, an indigenously built Missile Corvette is representing India.
  • Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) is being represented by RSS Tenacious,a Formidable Class Frigate
  • The Royal Thai Navy (RTN) was represented by His Majesty’s Thailand Ship (HTMS) Thayanchon, a Khamrosin Class Anti-submarine Patrol Craft.


  • The 2021 edition of the exercise is being hosted by the Royal Thai Navy.
  • The exercise was conducted as a ‘non-contact, at sea only’ exercise in view of COVID-19 restrictions.
  • It highlights growing synergy, coordination and cooperation in the maritime domain between the three friendly navies.
  • The two days of maritime drills witnessed the three navies engaged in various tactical exercises including naval manoeuvres and surface warfare drills.
  • The exercise is conducted annually after the announcement by India at Shangri-La Dialogue in June 2018. The maiden edition of SITMEX was hosted by the Indian Navy off Port Blair in September 2019.


SITMEX-21 will fortify the long-standing bond of friendship and further enhance the cooperation between the participating navies towards augmenting the overall maritime security in the region. The exercise is in line with India’s SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) vision.
