India’s first startup-operated launchpad, mission control centre inaugurated at the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota

  • India’s first launchpad and mission control centre designed and operated by a private player has been inaugurated at the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota, space startup Agnikul Cosmos.
  • The startup, incubated at the Indian Institute of Technology-Madras, also plans to launch its customisable Agnibaan rocket from the launchpad before the end of this year.
  • The first launch from the Agnikul launchpad will be a controlled and guided mission. A statement issued by Agnikul Cosmos said that it was launched vertically using its patented engine.
  • Agniban is a highly customizable two-stage launch vehicle capable of carrying up to 100 kg payload to an altitude of about 700 km. This enables plug-and-play configuration.
