  • The four-day Chhath Puja celebrations began across the country today, October 28.
  • It is a festival connected with purity. Devotees pay special prayer to the Sun God, who is considered the source of life on this earth and is regarded as the deity who fulfills all our wishes.
  • AIR correspondent reports that devotees are observing Nahaye Khaye today and the atmosphere in the entire Bihar is reverberating with devotional songs.
  • People started their day early in the morning with holy baths in the river Ganga and bring some water to their homes to prepare offerings.
  • Devotees take only one meal a day, known as Kaddu bhat, cooked only in bronze or soil utensils and mango wood over the soil stove.
  • According to the Hindu calendar, every year on the Chaturthi of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month the day of Nahay-Khay is celebrated.
  • Shashthi Maiya and Suryadev are worshiped during Chhath Puja. The festival of Chhath Puja is also known as Surya Shashthi.
  • This festival is kept for the children. On the Chaturthi of Kartik month, Nahay-Khay is observed on the first day, Kharna on the second day, Arg is offered to the setting sun on the third day and the rising sun on the fourth day. After this the fasting is concluded.
