- Jayanti Pattnaik- the first chairperson of the National Women Commission, former MP and wife of late Odisha Chief Minister Janaki Ballav Pattnaik passed away in Odisha capital Bhubaneswar on September 28, 2022.
- Patnaik had been elected to Lok Sabha from Cuttack on a Congress ticket in 1981. She was once again elected from Cuttack in 1984.
- Many dignitaries including the President of India have condoled her death. Describing her as an eminent social worker who endeared herself to people of the state through her service and dedication, President Droupadi Murmu has expressed her condolences to her family, friends and well-wishers.
- Expressing grief, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has said besides politics and social service, late Jayanti Pattnaik was also a writer.
