Dev Joshi, the 22-year-old Indian actor selected to fly around moon

  • Japanese businessman Yusaku Maezawa selected 8 people from across the world for the 2018 ‘dearMoon’ project, in which the only Indian was the ‘Baalveer’ actor.
  • Others include Korean pop star TOP DJ Steve Aoki, filmmaker Brendan Hall, YouTuber Tim Dodd, British photographer Karim Illia, Czech artist Yemi Eddy and Irish photographer Rhiannon Adam.
  • Dev, now 22, is best known for portraying the role of Baal Veer in Sony Sab’s fantasy children’s series Baal Veer. He has also appeared in a string of Gujarati films and other Hindi TV shows. In 2019, he was conferred the Bal Shakti Puraskar, India’s highest civilian honor below the age of 18, by former President Ramnath Kovind. 
  • The Japanese businessman had planned a trip to the moon in 2018 by buying all the seats in the spacecraft and started taking applications from all over the world in March 2021.
  • Last year too, he had made a 12-day visit to the International Space Station aboard the Soyuz Russian spacecraft. After this, this will be his second space journey from SpaceX spacecraft.
