India won 3 medals for the first time in men’s World Boxing Championship

  • Deepak Bhoria, Hussamuddin and Nishant Dev scripted history by ensuring India’s best ever performance at the prestigious tournament with three medals at the men’s World Boxing Championships in Tashkent.
  • Deepak Bhoria (51kg), Hussamuddin (57kg) and Nishant Dev (71kg) won bronze medals in the semi-finals.
  • The Men’s World Boxing Championships is held in Uzbekistan (from April 30 to May 14, 2023).
  • With three bronze, India finished joint fourth in the medals tally at the prestigious tournament, with hosts Uzbekistan (9), joint Cuba and Russia (6 each) and Kazakhstan (5) sharing the top three positions.
  • The bronze-medal winners will be awarded USD 50,000 each.
  • Earlier in the 51kg category, 2019 Asian silver medalist Deepak Kumar fought a tough semi-final against two-time world bronze medalist Bilal Benama of France.
